The Kentucky Derby Comes to American Junkie – Raising Money for Local Organization PAWS Chicago

Known as ‘The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports’ this year’s Kentucky Derby will come to life on American Junkie’s second floor, where both pre-race and race events will be showcased. Held on the first Saturday in May, Kentucky Derby viewers and fans can catch every minute on the American Junkie big screen as the three-year-old Thoroughbreds race the one and a quarter mile track.

Paying homage to Kentucky Derby traditions, American Junkie will offer a hand-crafted Mint Julep cocktail ($8), the traditional beverage of the race. Guests can sip on this refreshing, iced drink throughout the afternoon. In support of PAWS Chicago, the city’s organization focused to end the killing of homeless pets, guests can also purchase a Woodford Reserve Mint Julep souvenir cup and cocktail ($50) and a portion of the proceeds from each sale will benefit the organization. PAWS Chicago representatives will be on-hand for guests interested in making donations directly to PAWS. Chef Kendal Duque will offer a limited Kentucky Derby menu including Pork Belly Sliders and a variety of flatbreads for diners to snack on throughout the race day events.

Come and celebrate all afternoon as DJ Natural Born Killers spins tunes in-between the derby’s day-long activities. Guests are invited to come dressed in their derby best as American Junkie will crown a Kentucky Derby Best Dressed Male and Best Dressed Female. Winners will be announced during the event and will receive American Junkie gift cards to enjoy at their next visit.

The Derby event will take place on Saturday, May 4, 2013; Doors open at 3:00 p.m.; Kentucky Derby race begins at 5:25 p.m. CST.

Mint Julep cocktail is priced $8. Woodford Reserve Mint Julep cocktail and derby souvenir cup are priced at $50 (portion of the proceeds benefitting PAWS Chicago).
